I'm actually not into high end pc's or much pc gaming. Here's a long boring post - hope it at least helps someone someday! That means that for the most part all lanes that can be used to get to a destination should be used equally - avoiding the problem you see above without adding much CPU load (as well as giving you lots of other traffic control options!) The mod traffic president (I think that's the right name) gets around this nicely with an option that makes the cars select a random lane to use. As a city would get bigger, the CPU problem would get much worse. Now it's up to 2,000 decisions to get them all to their destinations. Let's also assume they take 20 seconds to travel. Now say we make the cars smarter and each of the 100 cars evaluates traffic once a second to find faster paths/open lanes. That's 100 path "decisions" that need made to get them to their destination. This was a core design choice done to save a lot of CPU time. So cars will not switch lanes to pass or use an open lane. The car then follows this path and will not deviate from it. The problem is that the traffic AI decides the entire path a car will take from start to finish (lanes and all) before the car spawns.
